Fracture

A close retelling, Najat Smeha’s story (Bekaa Valley, Lebanon, November 2024)

I heard them shouting,
“We cannot find him!“,
So I started running, 
Searching in the dust.

Wondering,
Where had my boy gone?
I screamed, 
"Where's my son!?"

                I could not see him.

Then I heard someone 
Calling in the cloud,
"He's alive! 
                He's alive!"

I thank God my son 
Is next to me. 

And he is probably re-running the scene as I am doing. 
I can handle it, but he is small, he can’t.
